PATTAYA CITY FACTS
Pattaya is a self governing special municipal area and includes Na Kluea the complete Tambon Nong Prue and parts of Nong Pla Lai and Huai Yai. Only 1 hour drive away from Bangkok the city's economy benefits greatly from this fact. Many Thai families book one weekend in Pattaya or have a condominium in Pattaya to leave the smog behind.
Official stats say that 5.4 million visitors arrived in 2005 in Pattaya, a large number of repeating visitors could be counted - families, retired couples and professionals took the lead. This changes the old image of Pattaya as a city only suited for lonely Western men on the look out for female company.
In 2007 Pattaya had registered 101,378 inhabitants. This stats however exclude the large number of Thais who work in Pattaya (many come and go for tourism related work) and many long-term expatriate visitors that work in Chon Buri. When non registered citizens are included, the population numbers around 300,000 at any given time. |
